80s Classic, Dirty Dancing, Set For Remake

Rumor has it that it has been confirmed that remakes of the classic 80s movie, Dirty Dancing, is currently in the works.

Lionsgate studio have been reported to be making a new version of the popular 1987 movie, which features a number of iconic scenes and memorable lines. The original starred Jennifer Grey as a teenage girl who rebels against her father by becoming romantically involved with a dance instructor at the summer resort where her family are taking their vacation. The instructor, of course, was originally played by the Patrick Swayze.

As of yet, there has been no word on who might play these characters in the new version. However, it has been announced that the original Dirty Dancing choreographer, Kenny Ortega, will be making a return to the movie, but this time he was also be directing. Since the 1987 film, Ortega has gained plenty of directing experience, taking the helm for movies such as “Hocus Pocus,” Michael Jackson’s “This Is It,” and all the High School Musical movies.

Of course, there are plenty of fans of this movie who will be keen to scrutinise any changes which are made in this updated version. There will also be much anticipation surrounding the soundtrack. Many people still listen to the original movie’s iconic songs as they play online games like Foxy Bingo or commute to work, whilst the movie’s finale track, ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life’ is still a popular dance-floor-filler. However, with producers said to be keen to modernize this movie, it is questionable how many classic tracks will remain in the final cut.

The announcement of the remake also comes as a number of other 80s movies get set to be revamped. Another 1987 movie, “Fright Night,” has already been recently remade, and a new version of the popular 1984 dance picture, “Footloose,” is soon to hit movie theatres across the US. However, only time will tell if these movies are able to attract the same amount of attention the second time around.
