Celebrate Umbria’s Food, Wine & Technology During Umbria Week 2013 Special Event At Eataly, Monday, June 3rd to Show Off the Region’s Best Culinary Attributes and Strides into New Technology

NEW YORK, NY, June 2013 – On the heels of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proclamation that last November be hailed “I Love Umbria” month, this culturally diverse region of Italy is taking great strides to raise its visibility from loved by many to known and adored by all. To do so, the tourism board and politicians of Umbria have created Umbria Week, June 3rd – 8th, with a diverse roster of activities taking place throughout the city to celebrate all that the culture has to offer. This special Umbria Week is a pre-cursor to the month-long celebration that will take place in November, being dubbed “Sensational Umbria.”

One of the first celebrations of the week will be a cocktail reception for an exclusive roster of media, chefs, and technology gurus, Monday June 3rd at 6pm at Eataly (200 5th Avenue, La Scuola Grande Private Room, 23rd Street Entrance). This event will mark the unveiling of several Umbria-focused apps for smartphones and tablets and attendees will have a chance to explore these apps (which are all FREE downloads), learning how Umbria is breaking the mold and pushing their culture into the 21st century while still holding onto old world traditions. One of the most impressive apps, “Umbria Enogastronomia” allows users to explore products that represent the terroir of the region, the best Umbrian wines, and a range of recipes shown through photos, ingredients, and detailed preparation notes.

Additionally, as the event is taking place at Eataly, which has become a New York mecca for Italian food and culture, there will be an amazing array of Umbrian food and wine to taste. One of these delicious dishes will be a lentil soup prepared by the Eataly chefs according to the recipe included in the Umbria Enogastronomia app. Additional bites include authentic Umbrian cheeses, meats, fruit, and antipasti.

Present at the event to speak to attendees about the apps, food, and wine of Umbria include Chiara Dall’Aglio of the Sviluppumbria Agency who will talk about the app, Jacopo Cossater, an Italian journalist and wine blogger, and Sara Goretti, the Vice-President of ‘Movimento Turismo del Vino dell’Umbria,’ i.e. the Wine Tourism Movement of Umbria.

Umbria is truly a “land rich in time.” Landlocked in the center of Italy, it is known for its rolling green hills, juxtaposed by gorgeous architecture in historical towns like Assisi, home of St. Francis of
Assisi, founder of the Franciscan order. The people of Umbria treasure their museums, art, and culture to
the highest order and invite visitors to truly immerse themselves in the culture and understand the identity that they hold onto so dearly. Those who aren’t able to travel to Umbria should take advantage of
Umbria Week to immerse themselves in what the region has to offer.
